The Natural Timber Colour Cycle
Step-by-Step Timber Treatment Guide
Wait 6 Months
After installation, wait at least 6 months before applying any paint or treatment. This allows the timber to fully acclimatise to the atmosphere.
Understand the Colour Cycle
Your timber will naturally change colour: green → gold → grey. This is completely normal. You should paint your shed once the timber has turned grey.
Clean Thoroughly
Before painting, clean off all moss, algae, and dirt from the timber surfaces. A stiff brush and appropriate wood cleaner will do the job.
Check Timber is Dry
Use a dry moisture meter to check the timber moisture content. The timber must be completely dry before you apply any treatment or paint.
Paint on a Dry Day
Only paint your shed on a dry day with no rain forecast. Damp conditions will prevent the paint from bonding properly to the timber.
Apply Quality Treatment
Use a high-quality exterior wood paint or preservative. Apply evenly and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the best, longest-lasting finish.
